Find a Remodeler

Choosing your Professional Remodeler

Americans often spend more money on remodeling their homes than they would spend on a new car, and too many of them spend less time choosing a remodeler than they do choosing a car. Do your homework before you have work done on your home. Don’t hire just any contractor whose name you find in the Yellow Pages. Use this checklist to select a remodeler who you can trust with your moist valuable asset.

  • Does your remodeler have a good reputation with local banks, suppliers, building officials and past clients?
  • Is he fully insured and licensed to contract?
  • Does he provide a detailed written contract?
  • Can he personally show you a job that is either completed or in progress?
  • Can you communicate easily with him? Do you feel comfortable with him?

Remember, you will be in close contact with him and will share your house with his crew until the project is completed.
