2019 Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 27th Annual Parade of Homes

On behalf of the Outer Banks Home Builder’s Association, we welcome you to our 27th annual Parade of Homes.  Held over Columbus Day weekend, this year’s Parade opens on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 and closes on Sunday, October 13th.  The Parade is a self-guided,

scattered site tour of our diverse coast, and will provide an introduction to the natural surroundings, as well as the creative and capable personalities who live and work in our community.  Homes are open 10 am - 6 pm Thursday through Saturday, and 10 am - 3 pm Sunday.

In the center of the Parade magazine and on our website, you will find our detailed map and driving directions to each home in this year’s parade.  There is no required stopping point, and no limit to the time you may take to complete.  You set the pace, and the ticket you purchase will be valid for all four days of the Parade, while a portion of the ticket proceeds benefit the local food pantry and other local charitable efforts.

17 homes stretched across a compact 35 miles will open their doors this year, ranging in size from 800 square feet to over 6,000.  We have 14 new homes and 3 large scale renovations to feature, and the styles are as diverse as ever, ranging from coastal contemporary, fresh adaptations of 50’s retro style, a mix of low country and coastal bungalow.  They represent all fields of ownership, from year-round homes, second homes and, of course, investment homes.  Within the homes, many new products and design inspiration will be featured, with the representative vendors, subcontractors and builders on hand to provide further depth to any questions you may have.

Our builder members collectively possess generations of coastal building knowledge, and that experience is proudly on display in the product choices that they make every day.  These products not only possess the durability that is required of them, but simultaneously seek to limit the impact to our fragile environment.  The incorporation of better building products and energy efficient features, combined with our members’ commitment to the structural integrity of a home is evident in the finished product that is not only efficient, practical and durable, but on trend with the style and aesthetics our clients desire.

You may purchase a ticket for $10 from any of the homes on the Parade, or at many sponsor locations.  Accompanying the ticket purchase, you will receive the Parade of Homes magazine that details the location of each home, a description of the products offered and a Builder profile.  We offer this same information on our website, so you may take a sneak peek at this year’s Parade of Homes in advance.  Please come and join us this Columbus Day weekend, for one or all four days of our 2019 Parade of Homes.  The homes featured this year are one of a kind, and we can’t wait to share them with you and your family.  Thank you and enjoy your time on the Outer Banks.

For 27 years the Parade of Homes has been a popular event, giving the public a chance to experience what our talented and dedicated local builders have available to showcase the quality of their work as well as the new construction trends occurring along the Outer Banks.

The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® is proud to be a sponsor and to continue our collaborations with the Outer Banks Homebuilders Association. The ongoing synergy is part of what continues to make the Outer Banks a destination to come to live as well as to vacation.  Without the expertise of these craftsmen, we as REALTORS® would not have the quality of homes to offer our clients in helping them to achieve their dream home.

So, we are very pleased that you have “come on down” to enjoy the 2019 Parade of Homes self-guided tour. We hope that you get inspired and come away with fresh ideas for maintaining, renovating or purchasing your special beach house.

Kindest regards,

Jean-Paul Peron
