Wait a minute, why is a motel in the Parade of Homes? The answer is simple: it’s a stylish renovation like none you have seen before! The result is retro cool designed for today’s Outer Banks visitor. The rooms are reminiscent of a classic Outer Banks cottage by the sea. Each has modern amenities like a Keurig coffee maker, keyless entry, microwave, fridge and toaster oven, all blended perfectly with vintage photography of the Outer Banks, board and batten walls and perfectly selected beach chic décor. The Outer Banks Hotel Group purchased the Tar Heel Motel in March of 2018. Although the rooms were tired and in need of attention, the new owners had a vision for this iconic Outer Banks motel: rather than tear it down, bring it up to date with the amenities our visitors have come to expect when renting a vacation home. Working with Outer Banks Construction and Renovation, they embarked on an ambitious two-month long process of tearing out the old and bringing in the new. Come see and feel the “Old Nags Head” style for yourself!
Heading further south on NC 12, you will continue past the cross streets E. Grouse Street and E. Glidden St; the motel is two lots down from E. Glidden Street on the west side of the Beach Road on the west side of the Beach road, located just adjacent to the Dunes Restaurant.
